Retreats
Fall - "Road Trip: Five Adventures You're Meant to Live (Identity, Faith, Discipleship, Contentment and Service)" Come go with us on a "road trip" that provides you with more than an ample dose of inspiration, encouragement, and resources to help you live your life even more fully. Registration is required (pastor@stjamesucc.org).

Spring - "Four Daily Practices" Come learn and experience four daily practices you can easily do which will help you get greater wisdom, clarity and joy for daily living whether it be during hard and difficult times or easy and lighter times. These four practices, once learned and used regularly, will help to make your life what you always hoped it could be. Registration is required (pastor@stjamesucc.org).

Sam’s Kitchen/Life Center
Is an opportunity to help cook or serve a meal for homeless men, women and children at the Life Center (63rd and Market Streets, Upper Darby) and low-income people from the neighborhood. If interested in cooking and/or serving, please contact the coordinator, Ed Hart (hartedwardm@gmail.com).

Self-Directed Resources
You can find on the tab "Self-Directed Resources" on the St. James Website (www.stjameucc.org) a variety of offerings to be used in a time and place that is convenient for you. They include booklets that you can read and print such as a blessing of a home, and morning and evening prayer among others. There is also the monthly resource called Faith@Home (see above description "Faith@Home") which can be read and printed. There is also a resource which seeks to unwrap what following Jesus looks like, and provides you with resources which will help you live as one who seeks to follow him. There is a confidential spiritual assessment you can take, and then key into those answers where you have replied "no" by utilizing the resources under that particular question and in that area of discipleship. Last, but not least, there are several videos produced by St. James Church which look at the areas of dealing with the dying and grieving, and simplicity.

Those With Cancer
Two initial projects are underway. The first is for us to provide cancer care packages which will help those in our community going through cancer treatment. If you are interested in helping please contact (secretary@stjamesucc.org). The second project is a video that will be produced and posted on our website and Youtube entitled “What to Say and Do for Those with Cancer.”

UCC Advent Devotional
We will provide each member of St. James with a 2017 Advent Devotional. These will be available via the mailboxes in the church narthex and online at www.ucc.org. Each day during the four weeks of Advent (December 3 - December 25) you can reflect on the meaning of this season and the coming of Jesus through scripture, the writer's reflection and prayer. Last year was our first year using our own denomination's Advent devotional and many in our congregation found them to be thought-providing and inspiring. The devotionals will be in church mailboxes by November 26.

Is a monthly resource to help individuals, couples, and families with children and teens grow in faith. Each month, you will find four activities that have proven to be the key things we can do to help our faith grow and deepen. The four activities each focus on one of those keys: the Bible and prayer, caring conversations about faith, service, and rituals and traditions. Each month they are placed in members’ mailboxes in the narthex of the church, and they are also available on the St. James website at the tab marked "Self-Directed Resources".

Come and join us for what will be a fun, meaningful, and helpful day in which there will be great takeaways for couples on how to communicate more effectively, "fight" fair, and the importance of gratitude and appreciation in your relationship. Our desire is to provide a place where your commitment to one another is celebrated and you feel safe and affirmed by just spending time with those who understand you and your story, because it is their story too. The workshop is free. Registration is required (pastor@stjamesucc.org).

Mission Trip: Global Gateway Heifer Farm

(Rutland, Massachusetts) - Grade 6 - Adult
Global Gateway participants experience the daily struggles people in poverty face every day. Participants are given little, just some simple ingredients, and before they can eat, they build a fire and cook their own meal. The challenge continues into the night as they sleep in simple housing, such as a Peruvian clay house. Through this two-night, three day program participants gain a deeper understanding of sustainable agriculture and life on the farm by participating in evening chores and enjoying a farm dinner on their first night. By living the lessons of poverty first-hand, participants come to understand the complications surrounding hunger and poverty and see their connection in creating change that brings possibility and hope to millions around the world. Scholarships are available. Each participant will be required to help with one of the two fundraisers planned before the trip. If interested and desire more information including the date of the mission trip, please contact the coordinator. Trip Coordinator: Pastor Lynn Lampman (pastor@stjamesucc.org).
