Adult Spiritual Formation
Throughout the year we offer numerous activities for adults to deepen their faith: grow closer to God and grow in their understanding of what it means to live out their faith. We offer opportunities that are ongoing, stand alones and of short duration. Please visit ADULT SPIRITUAL FORMATION BROCHURE to find out about our many Bible Studies, etc. If you have questions about any of our spiritual formation opportunities, please contact Pastor Lynn at 610.733.1502 or lplampman@comcast.net
Prayer Group “Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” (Philippians 4:6) At St. James Church we believe that none of us should have to carry our burdens alone. In hopes of lighting your load, we at St. James church would like to pray for you and those are on your mind and in your heart. We hope you will feel free to send us your prayer request to pastor@stjames.ucc.org and we (the pastor and the Prayer Groups) will be glad to pray for you and yours. Book Clubs
Sunday School for adults consists of 45-60 minutes of adult Bible study, faith exploration, and discussion using various approaches. The time together will explore how God is at work in our daily lives, will examine the life and teaching of Jesus, or will discuss the scripture passage which is the focus of that Sunday's sermon. Come at 9:00 a.m. for morning snacks before the class begins at 9:15 a.m.
As members of St. James we have seen first hand the difference that prayer can make. We believe in the power of prayer to relieve anxiety, as well as to change people’s lives and circumstances. On the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM, and on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 11:00 AM, the Prayer Groups of St. James Church gather to pray for the needs of members and our church, friends, colleagues, relatives, neighbors, our community and the world. Please contact the church office secretary@stjamesucc.org if you are interested in obtaining more information about these groups and their work or in joining them in their time of prayer.
Members from St. James Church and the community meet on the first Tuesday at 7:00 PM and the third Wednesday at 1:00 PM each month. The books that have been chosen for both book clubs are varied in scope and genre (fiction and nonfiction). Come join us for an exchange of a ideas and discussion that is lively, inspiring and thought provoking.
Please visit Book Club Selections for a list of upcoming books to be reviewed.
Several members of the St. James Book Club travelled to Chester County on a Sunday in October to join other fellow "book clubbers" at Lisa Scottoline's Farm. Nationally-recognized author Lisa and her daughter, Francesca, greeted each guest individually with a warm hug and then joined in a group picture. Guests were encouraged to enjoy the first floor of her lovely home and its surrounding grounds while enjoying cold beverages and a buffet lunch. A large tent occupied the back yard and after lunch, Lisa and her daughter entertained the group with stories and jokes while stressing their appreciation for everyone who buys and reads her books. A surprise appearance by "Mother Mary" ended the afternoon! A wonderful time was had by all!
Resource Booklets
Throughout the year we produce several booklets which help those of us at St. James deepen our faith. At our home page, under "Resources and Links," you can find the links that will lead you to the most
recent resources given to our congregation. These resources booklets include: table graces (for use as mealtime prayers), a blessing of a home (so you can dedicate your home to God and ask God’s blessing on the many activities in your home), morning and evening prayer (a great way to begin and end your day with God), Spirituality of Pets (given at our Blessing of the Animals service on the second Sunday of October), and Parents/Grandparents Handbook (helping with the spiritual formation of children). Please go to our home page to download booklets, which can be found at the "Resources and Links" tab.
